I also noticed a real trend for unexpected finishes; rattan being incorporated into sleek, contemporary furniture, lighting and objet crafted from natural stone, leather used in a new and unusual setting.

I absolutely loved these Giles Caffier lights with marble shades and the range of Made e Mano lava stone lamps and desks – the lava stone is sourced from Mount Etna in Sicily and cut into various shapes and forms.

Blush was a key colour trend for 2016 and I was very happy to see the trend continuing at Maison this year. From Bert Frank’s new pin tucked sofas upholstered in powdery pink velvet to GTV’s retro range, styled to reflect the blush trend, brands had found even more ways to incorporate this fabulous colour.

In contrast to the natural fabrics and finishes, there was also an abundance of velvet. To me, comfort is really the new luxury – softer fabrics are perfect for creating a real sanctuary in the home.

My Top Picks from Maison & Objet & Paris Déco Off 2017 My team and I traveled to Paris to join the international design industry for the annual Maison & Objet and Paris Déco Off  design shows. New designs were celebrated and the new trends for 2017 were set!

I could almost hear the sound of the rainfall at Maison this year, all things exotic and African in flavour were celebrated. Cole & Son presented the Ardmore collection – a range of statement wallpapers which draws inspiration from the South African ceramic company, Ardmore.

Combining two different wallpapers is so of the moment and clashing prints only adds to the overall effect…

I also like the way Portuguese designer Ana Roque has used a zesty lemon yellow shade for this pouf within a monochrome scheme.

From playful animal motifs to a range of Cole & Son wallpaper inspired by Ardmore, the South African ceramic brand, this year at Maison really delivered some strong new trends. I wanted to share my top picks and a few tips for incorporating these new trends into your living space…

Another one of my favourites is this Exteta leather day bed. Leather, a traditional indoor fabric has been used as an outdoor fabric – a total surprise! And yes the supplier confirmed it is treated and suitable for outdoor use.

Both Duisst and GTV (Gabruder Thonnet Vienna) presented these gorgeous sofas and day chairs with rattan backing.

Exotic motifs were also expressed through decorative objet d’art, such as these ceramic monkey vases by Elena Salmistraro for Bosa, which are so unique.

This year, I really noticed how warm, earthy and energising tones, especially shades of orange and yellow have made a big impact in the interior design space. I especially loved the way HMD Interiors and Petite Friture introduced these hues as sophisticated accents, orange works brilliantly against darker wood finishes and energizes neutral shades of grey.

Blue, representing the colour of logic and reason with a calming and tranquil characteristic, was fully embraced at Maison – from cobalt blue painted walls at Duisst to a pleated Paolo Antunes leather armchair and even a playful blue palm print by Petite Friture – blue was everywhere.

Altto, Frato’s sister brand, revealed this yellow and grey lounge suite. Pairing yellow with more neutral tones such as grey or white is a subtle way of bringing this hue into your home.
