In a Hamptons bedroom by Lisa McFadden, two lively fabric patterns from Designers Guild call on a similar palette in different scales. The tulip print, Mei P’ing, graces the twin beds and Roman shade, while a geometric fabric covers the benches.

“The dining area in the great room was tricky because it’s so open,” says designer Summer Thornton of a Florida vacation home. She used Henredon’s Veneto dining table as the anchor, hanging Circa Lighting’s Gramercy chandelier over it. The slope of the arms of wicker Mallory dining chairs from Made Goods “gives them a certain elegance that separates them from outdoor furniture,” the designer says, and the vintage Indian dhurrie from Madeline Weinrib “brings age and history into the space.”

While this Maryland home features soot gray walls, a regal canopy adds a fanciful touch to a girl’s bedroom. Glass nesting tables from Donghia offer a sleek contrast. Nevis curtains by Lady Ann Fabrics are trimmed in a Samuel & Sons pom-pom fringe.

This Connecticut farmhouse nails country style. Underused neutrals rust and charcoal echo throughout with woodsy elements like oak, cedar, stone and leather.

This ultra-modern room uses color sparingly for a sleek look.

Designer Nina Farmer updated a period home with a Phillip Jeffries horsehair wall covering. Around a Keith Fritz table, dining chairs are covered in a textured linen jute from Holland & Sherry.

Pierre Frey’s Espalier wallpaper hints at a California home’s verdant surroundings, while a Serena & Lily hanging rattan chair defines another seating area. Metal chairs from Restoration Hardware are topped with Ikea sheepskins. “That’s a trick you see on Scandinavian blogs,” designer France Merrill says. “When it gets cold, a sheepskin makes things super cozy.”

In an Atlanta cottage designed by Shon Parker, a vintage Ralph Lauren Home bed rests on an antique Afshar rug; the ceiling is in Benjamin Moore’s Woodlawn Blue.

In a Nantucket beach house, the master bedroom walls have a decorative cross-glaze paint finish by Audrey Sterk, and an armchair by the window is the place for taking it all in.

Short pieces, like this tufted couch, keep an open floor plan cozy. Use area rugs to define individual “rooms” within the space.

A San Francisco apartment’s small dining room doubles as a library, where part of owner John Mayberry’s art collection is displayed — including an antique bronze Sukhothai Buddha acquired in Bangkok, a vintage zebra-skin rug from London and a lamp made from an antique Chinese burial urn.

Start with an all-white canvas and swap in seasonal accents all year-round. This summery living room uses cool blues, jute accessories and nautical accents for a beachy vibe.

Designer Christina Rottman describes this Santa Barbara suite as “one of the most luxurious guest bedrooms I have done.” Cozy bed-curtains in Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s Senja fabric outfit the custom four-poster by Gregorius Pineo terra, providing a warm contrast to the black-and-white prints around the room.

In the dining room of her Charleston rental, stylist Jill Sharp Weeks mixes elements from different eras and cultures. The photography triptych by Rob Brinson features objects from Weeks’s collection of tribal jewelry.

In his designer Mackay Boynton created a dramatic backdrop for the bedroom by hanging a valance from the ceiling and along the wall and lining the canopy in a navy-and-white lattice-patterned fabric. The coverlet is an antique suzani, and the monogrammed shams are from Pottery Barn.

Justina Blakeney used her own Aja wallpaper in her home’s dining room, this time in Aubergine. It’s a bold backdrop for furnishings including a set of Verner Panton chairs — hand-me-downs from her grandparents. The vintage Bumling pendant and Turkish kilim were found on eBay.

With 100 different designer styles, there’s an idea for everyone here. And if you’re also seeking inspiration for other areas in your home, our bathroom and living room design galleries have hundreds of gorgeous tricks to steal.

Grownups can have pink bedrooms too. Colefax and Fowler’s Bowood wallpaper covers the walls and ceiling of a townhouse bedroom. A pink shade tops Thomas O’Brien’s Paolo sconce, matching the monogrammed linens and tufted bench.

Your style may be posh, your furniture can still be cozy. Plush sofas and armchairs rule the roost in Ellen Pompeo’s L.A. home. “It’s fancy in a cool way, not in an ‘I can’t sit there’ way,” she says.

To create a calming atmosphere in a California vacation home, designer Frances Merrill brought in neutral colors, including a floor painted in Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Gray. A Blu Dot Dodu bed in oatmeal wool felt and boudoir pillows in Kerry Joyce’s Rigoletto velvet add texture, and the bedside lamps are from West Elm.

Whether it’s a complete overhaul or a quick change, spice up the family’s favorite room with these pro tips.

At a Lake Tahoe retreat, the formal dining area mixes rusticity and refinement. The custom plank table is large enough to seat 14 guests. The Aesthetic dining chairs are covered in a hair-on-hide leather by Cortina, “which feels perfect in the mountains,” says designer Matt O’Dorisio.

This breezy Florida living room (with happy-hued pillows) is as pretty as it is practical. The sofa is upholstered in water-resistant fabric to create a put-your-feet-up attitude.

The key to subtle color lays at your feet. A patterned carpet plays up the neutral furniture in a New Jersey home, while a similarly-hued pillow adds another punch to the armchair.
